How to correctly scale huge heighmap

Hi, for my game Mars Commander, I'm using real-world data from Nasa. However, after stamping, my Unity terrain has many little "bumps" in it.  I've tried many different solutions, but none of them have worked so far. What can I do?

The problem seems to be that the original landscape is huge, as in 50 by 50 kilometers or more. Perhaps there is a way to scale correctly or to smoothen out those bumps?

  • vdeijk changed the title to How to correctly scale huge heighmap

You could change the stamper to smooth operation and smooth out the terrain. If you go small values your hills would still be there.

Thanks, Bryan. However, I found another solution. Turns out the asset also has obj. files that can be converted to Unity terrains. That's what I did, and it solved the problem entirely.

I guess the publisher of the asset made a mistake with scaling when he created the original heightmaps.
