Road carving workflow and restore of "base" terrain

When making roads that carve in Gena Pro you often want to go back and make changes, but since the terrain is permanently adjusted how do you go about restoring that chunk or area to its original data?  You can export the entire 5x5 area as a stamp but is there any way to simply restore a 1km by 1km terrain for example and re-generate it with the biome based on new roads and objs?  The heightmap would need to identically re-store.

@picklefeetgames, are you also using Gaia?  The Gaia Session manager has a "Add New Backup" as well a "Restore" for the terrain heightmaps.
You can also back up your terrain data object to save the heightmap as well as trees and details.

You could use CTRL + Z to undo anything you have done. If you close the application than the undo is lost, same goes for making any other changes. 

If you are using Gaia Pro than Clyde suggestion is the best option for playing back the session before the carve was made. 
Please note that any manual changes made using the standard terrain tools will not be stored in the session itself.

Thanks for both suggestions, yes we're using the pro suites so I'll look more into the session system.
