Using Extension On Large Map Builder Roads

I have a 10 km sq mile. I have run the map builder and it looks great. The downside is trying to use extensions to carve, remove trees, and etc. Just clicking the carve extension has the editor thinking for over an hour and it still isn't done. 


I tried to break the spline into smaller parts, but it also takes hours and I am not sure it will complete if I wait.

How do you recommend to handle large road splines like this? I am thinking I will reduce the # of cities spawned, I would love to not have to do that. Thanks in advance for any advice given.
