Hey everyone, what do you think of doing a content pack for this asset? https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/environments/big-environment-pack-reforged-210354 Its got a really great mix between nature assets and building assets and is quite high quality. In short its the kind of asset devs build games around and I think we can do some really cool stuff with it. Let us know if you would want this!

I don't own that personally but  I don't own alot of art assets, so for me, I can easily replace them with the ones I have for my kids and i'm teaching my little ones to model, so makes no difference to me.     I was just pointing out what I thought could and would happen.

But for my kids, they wanted to see more realism in general so they can play around with them in Gaia, Gena etc, they really like playing with Gaia and Gena alot.

Only art assets I have are ones folks gave me over the years I don't buy art or models typically..  Mostly Nature M and some others.

Nature M, most folks have..  Just pointing that out.  But I would leave the voting in for folks, just change art styles. So they can decide which packs. Just my 2 cents.

Also don't worry about me, honestly, I care more what the community wants in general as long as its fair to community. So makes no difference to me.

PS I vote for what ever the community wants, even if I don't  have that is fine by me.  I just like it to be fair to everyone, for art styles.

PS: I own prolly 300 assets and maybe 15 or so are art packs, the rest are some form of tool of sort.

They are ones given to me for testing or people I been friends with.  But regardless, I would let the community vote, and have them to vote on realism one month or what ever. Alot of people may not have that pack.  So, that would also leave alot of people out.  Just pointing that out there.

First time I even seen that pack to be honest.

Hi @Ben Black,

It looks very nice but it’s not my style (it’s too much photorealistic to my taste).

In addition, it’s seems that it’s not compatible with URP and HDRP.

eh, its models and textures, you can add HDRP, URP to any model, texture...  ALot of packs are just that models and textures.  You can add HDRP, URP...  I wanted to point that out.

Also Gena, Gaia is not a CITY Builder at all, it has the ability to spawn towns and such, but not a City Builder.   There how ever some tools on the asset store that are City Builders.

I don't own that pack, but a spawner for it would be pretty cool

I agree with Broudy here.  This could still be fine  as I stated, if its for realism folks can replace them in there spawners.

It is fully compatible. I literally have it in my HDRP project.

@MoriaAppreciate the feedback, as mentioned above already we will review this and bring more balance to the packs that we put out so it is not so one-sided on low-poly stuff only.

I had forgot to add, Gaia pro, has scanned Data as well.. Remember in real world we just don't take packs, we add models, textures and then spawn then, people will be mixing and matching.

So, being able to take scanned Data from Gaia pro and making spawners out of it with Gena, and then, adding some known other packs mixing them in for folks as spawners . ThIS will also save you guys from having to make anything since they exist.    Everyone who owns GAIA pro, will have the scanned data....

I would for users who don't know, to make a tutorial on how to change GO/prefabs, etc on a an existing spawner.  For new and less experience users, would be helpful to them and cut your guys work way down. Since Spawners can be re-used.

I know  I re-use most of my spawners in any project I make..  I have a generic cliff spawners and others, I reuse for all my projects.   So, this could save you guys alot of time.

So to reiterate, Take GAIA pro scanned data, and make spawners out of it for any thing like it. make it pretty generic. So that alot of the realism will work fine for it.  Add with that same pack, a popular pack say like Nature M, Meadow environment I think is the more popular one if I'm right I believe.

Or something like that and then make a tutorial showing how easy it is, to swap out any prefab, and reuse the same spawners.   The tutorial alone I think would HELP 99% of the Gena Users.   I get asked this asking me all the time atleast 5 times a month. or more.

The point to this, is to still be able to put out packs, but also to be able to show how they can reuse, most Spawners types, no matter the art style.. So you are killing two birds with one stone.  Because you guys will never ever, be able to get every single pack and type of art, art style, biomes etc.. SO folks will need to be able to do this anyways.

its models and textures....anyways....  So, HDRP, and URP can be added even if a pack doesn't have it ... it was made in built in, but if I added my own models textures, it would work, since its a rendering pipeline, what would break something, if they had different shaders.

So, this don't seem to have them, so HDRP, URP will work for any pack that is missing HDRP, URP if they are selling like this pack, Models and Textures.  They aren't selling shaders .

Now saying that say an asset is selling shader, and it doesn't have HDRP, URP, you can still swap it out for most things, unless it depends on it ...

So art assets are never a problem, when they are like that...

Some artist don't want to get involved with shaders, so they just sell models, textures, particles, etc. Forge 3d does this as well.

On the download page of GeNa Pro, I read:

Key Features:

  • Extensible spawner, decorator and spline and city building systems.

I was looking at the fantasy frost environment on devassets.com, and I really like it. I found this pack over a year ago while looking at an old list of assets on an old Procedural Worlds website. Unfortunately after I purchased this pack, I realized it does not come with the level shown in the pictures, which I could've really used. I think it would be really cool to have a game ready level created using these assets. Here's the link to the asset pack:

city building systems.

Yup Gena has City Building systems, IE, roads,  and a map builder...

Which is different from a CITY Builder, two different things..

its  Map builder is very nice, but not the same thing.

Saying that with some work, Its very possible for a user to make a City Builder with Gena as I been making one ...  I made one in UE for my game, now making one in Gena for my kids to use. too.  I have about half of it done.   but out of the box it don't have a full blown City Builder.

This is something I'll have to eventually get in to for my project as well. But soooo much to do till then.

In the meantime, no april requests topic? I've been waiting for it to talk about adding controls for haze and fog effects. Gaia already has some haze in it, but it would be really nice to be able to push it for added atmospher.

having fog pools in crevasses and flats would also be a great.

Hey everyone,

I know some of you are frustrated by the apparent abandonment of Canopy by Procedural Worlds. It has not been abandoned, however the response from the community is forcing us to re-evaluate the offer.

When we started Canopy, it was such a good deal, that we anticipated that people would jump on board and support both themselves and us. A huge value in software, support, and a growing body of content for just $39/mth.

We jumped behind it big time and we delivered:

  • Supported via our forums system
  • A whole lot of education, and new technical articles
  • A gallery system where people can share their work
  • Multiple updates to our core tools, Gaia, GeNa, Ambient sounds
  • A powerful toolkit / scene optimization tool
  • A very cool game template - the rails shooter
  • Gaia ML, the integration of ML from Intel and Unity into the core Gaia product
  • 3 new procedural spawner packs / biomes
  • 2 new game ready levels, in each of the 3 render pipelines
  • A couple of texture packs
  • 18 new stamp packs
  • A road decals pack
  • HDRP time of day system
  • Lake / Dam system - new mesh extrusion system in GeNa Pro

On top of this we currently have in progress:

  • The 2022 releases for Gaia, GeNa, SECTR
  • A very powerful extrusion addon for GeNa
  • A very cool new terrain shader system that is already looking amazing
  • Another amazing procedural spawner pack based on the new big environment pack in the asset store.

This is a huge amount of output from a small company like us and the cost to achieve this has been significant.

As it has turned out, the reality is that the community has not gotten behind this as were anticipating.  In fact, the majority of subscribers have jumped in, downloaded our entire asset suite for $39, plus all this new stuff, and then unsubscribed again. There was even a studio that did the same thing.

As it currently stands, Canopy does not make enough per month for us to sustain the cost of even ONE artist / developer! So, unfortunately, the speed at which new content will be developed has to slow down. We can only invest into the community at the speed that the community is prepared to support the development of the new content we would like to deliver.

So where does that leave us now ? We will continue to support and grow Canopy, and the content we host here. And we will also continue provide early access to our new tools here so that the community can participate in their development.

Where people have subscribed, and stayed with us, we are grateful for the awesome requests for new content, and it highlights to us where we can and should keep working. We will work through theses requests over time to deliver them, and we will continue to develop our tools.

I am totally open to suggestions from the community on how to do this better, and in a way that is financially sustainable.

Warm regards,
Adam.

ouch, downloading then unsubscribing in a single month. That's brutal. Sorry to hear everyone took the goods and ran.

When I wore the embedded developer hat, the industrial standard I found was that you only had a choice of a minimum yearly subscription, paid up front, and nothing else. You can still offer the monthly payment but leave the members committed to 12 months of payments.

...just noticed you're new subscription structure. Is there still the option of cutting and running after the 1st month? The higher fee won't change much if they only make one payment.

I would also reconsider the downgrade option. If someone wishes less use of the tools, let them do so when it comes for renewal time at the end of the year subscription.

I hope you can swing things around. I have a lot more requests still. 😁
